A few days off here and there is never a problem for any horse. In fact, many actually benefit from it.
However, when we have weeks of this crazy hot weather it can be tricky to work horses effectively, especially if it is not possible to work them all super early in the day or on days when it doesn't really even start off cool. I am a total in-hand addict and have been for decades! I have trained specifically in this in many countries such as Germany, Spain, Portugal and England to learn different techniques and to work with different horse breeds. I believe everyone should become proficient at in-hand work, at least to the level of training that they are riding with their horse. It is easy, fun and gives rider a greater understand and also appreciation of the training of these movements and horses. Not to mention how beneficial it is for horses, both for prehab, rehab and cross training. Keen to learn more? Checkout the info about the In-hand stream of Equest Connect. Most days it is too hot to float your horse to me but I do have a couple of superstar horses who help me teach people this art! Be in touch if you want to have a play! They are super clever!
